CAR Spring Tour in the Surrey Hills - SPACES STILL AVAILABLE

Sunday 15th April starting at 10AM near jn 10 of M25

15/04/2018

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME THERE ARE STILL A COUPLE OF SPACES LEFT. CONTACT ANDY OWLER AT andyowler@aol.com IF YOU WANT TO COME ALONG. This is NOT a Rally nor a competition. The correct description is a "Touring Assembly". There are no check points, no timing and no prizes! Any car or motorcycle may enter and although the use of a "Classic" is not essential it would be very welcome! If you have a choice of vehicle "narrower" is better than "wider" and modern Ferraris, Lambo's and Porsches may be too fat for comfort on some of the narrower roads! The vehicle should conform to normal "Road Legal" rules and no special insurance or equipment is necessary. You will be provided with a "Hi-Viz Post-It Note" to be stuck to the inside of your windscreen to identify you as a participant. A detailed "Route Book" will be provided with all the information you might need and NO map reading is required (other than to get yourself to the start at Cobham and home again afterwards!). The route is around 60 miles long over country roads mainly "B", and smaller, roads with NO rough or damaging "white" roads. We cannot promise "No potholes" given the state of the nation's roads but the route is as suitable for your precious classic car as it is for a modern shopping car. Typically we would set off at 2 minute intervals to minimise bunching. The notional average speed is less than 30mph to allow time for errors and ensure that you do not miss your lunch if you get lost. Use of a SatNav is allowed not least to get you to the coffee and lunch locations in an emergency. (Risk of missing your lunch qualifies as an "Emergency"!). All C.A.R. members*, their partners, kids, Gran's and friends are welcome. This event was originally prepared for the Cobham Probus Club (retired business people all of whom are over 60 with many, including the organiser, over 70!). Twenty people entered and nobody missed their lunch (just)! You will need a driver and a navigator (minimum) and youngsters are often pressed into service for navigating. An objective is to involve our families and friends in the hope that they will enjoy the experience, find that using a classic car is great fun and, one day perhaps, take an interest in doing a more serious "Rally" using maps and map references. But that is for the future! The cost of entry is £15 made by cheque payable to Club Alpine Renault and sent to Andy Owler at least one week before the event. The Route Book and all instructions will be posted or emailed to you during the final week and after receipt of your cheque so that you and your crew will have time to study it in advance and ask any questions. Food, coffee, fuel and any extras are for you to pay. * The MSA Certificate will allow us to invite members of other car clubs, and the general public, if we wish. Between 12 and 20 cars would be just right!
